I'm sorry I haven't written in a while. I've been coming home rather late, of late. Let's see. My night life is blossoming. Living in a city is awesome. And expensive. I've gone through a lot of money these past two weeks. Mexico is cheaper than the States, naturally, but it's not that cheaper. And so, saving a few dollars here and there is costing me.
Last I spoke to you was after my bus trip on Friday. I was going back to school for a stupid lecture on Yucatecan food that was completely unnecessary. I had showered and gotten ready for this thing, and didn't want to go home right away after it was done. So I went with Gustavo to Plaza Fiesta (again). We had fun again, exploring strange fish bowl ornaments, eating rollos primaveras and tres leches cake, and walking around. Then, I went home and ate or something. We went out again that night to the karaoke bar. Eric met me at my house and I showed him my ukelele. He played it while I played my harmonica. Omg that was thrilling. Gustavo arrived and we caught the bus and walked down Paseo Montejo. It was just us three again at the bar and we ordered drinks and nachos. (They weren't very good.) Soon, the frat boys Joe and Chris showed up as well. So it was just me and the four program boys (aww yea!).
They had "Lento" so obviously I sang it. Omg that made my life. At the second chorus, I spontaneously got up and danced over to our table in my high heels. Hahaha, Josh, you would have been proud. I was SUCH the diva *two clicks*. ^_^ Gustavo and Eric both went up there and sang/rapped songs too! It was a good night overall.
Saturday came, and we went to Los Dos cooking school. It's run by this guy from the Southwest who moved to Mérida. He was so interesting. His house, oh my shit, was a fucking mazing. Every detail was perfect in that house. High ceilings, flowing plants, a pool with a fountain, it was a dream come true. It wasn't exactly a school per se, as all we did was put habaneros over a flame, pat out two tortillas, and fold a tamal (sing. of tamales). We didn't really prepare for much. But oh! The food that we "made" was deluscious! Riquísima!!
Last night we went to Envy, a discoteca. G and I took a cab there. We got there a little late, and everyone was already inside. It was a fun night. I mean, a little packed, but good. It again was hard to move, and they played too much techno (oh my shit fuck techno), but it was fun. I love reggaeton or any kind of hip-hop or latin music because you can bump to that shit.
I love dancing. Some guy asked Erica and I if we wanted to dance with him and his friend. Sure. He was 16. He had braces. When I put his hands on my waist, he had no idea what to do. Hahaha omg. ;) I also danced with this guy named William. He asked for my number and I gave it to him. Eeeek! >_<>
We got home at 4:30 am. (Renee, don't tell the parents.) Hahaha, I love it. I woke up today around midday and it was my madre's birthday! We had a fiesta here and everything. There were a bunch of people and they were all nice. I got pushed to the kids' table. There's always a kids' table. I didn't really talk too much to these people because I don't know how to express myself fully and clearly. I'm already a fool though when it comes to speaking Spanish, and I'm glad I've lost my dignity a little.
I simply love being here, I just wish I had more time and spoke better. One guy told me today to not worry. It will come little by little, and the reassurance touched me. I keep forgetting to put it into perspective.
No te preocupes,
-Ashley
