Today in Migrations class we watched a movie about...migration. It was set in England and focused on a woman who dealt illegal immigrants out like cards to the factories. That is all I want to say about that...
I grabbed the bus even though there was confusion at the start about where we were heading. The other students didn't get on the bus, but I wanted to get the hell outta there so I took it. Then, the camionero was like "...Yeah I'm not going to el Centro." He was probably headed home. (Have I mentioned how much I hate the buses here?) So we got off in some unfamiliar place and it could've been real sketch balls except this girl knew what she was doing so I followed her. I sat down next to her on the bus and she was really interesting. She was a student like me and had studied for a semester in Spain. She was cool.
I waited in the park for Ezer because we were going to the zoo. I saw Erin's parents and it was cute because Erin is so Mexican now, but her parents reminded me that she is indeed quite American. Yay touristy parents. Ezer and I found each other, grabbed some foodstuffs at Oxxo, and went in search of a bus to take us to the zoo. Good fucking luck.
He asks around and we find the zoo just fine. It's really cute and old. But it has a surprising number of animals! I wish I had my camera, but whatevs. There were your traditional exotic birds (parrots, peacocks, flamingos), reptiles (snakes, turtles), and boring herbivores (deer, mountain goats), but there were also the traditional, always cool African animals (zebras, crocodiles, baboons, other types of monkeys). I was impressed because they even had three hippos and two giraffes. The giraffe started licking the fence and Ezer said "rico!" For some reason, that shit is funnier in Spanish. The hippo was also hilarious. We were just watching it and all of a sudden it started to shit. Not only that, but it's tail was swishing back and forth like a windshield wiper and the shit flew everywhere. Hilarious. The most impressive part of the zoo was all the big cats. They had tigers, jaguars, leopards, lions, pumas, panthers, black jaguars, everything except for cheetahs I think.
But at that point I was tired. Mind you, it's almost 95 degrees now and just about noon. I'm done. We search for a bus, but we're on the other side now. I just wanna get out of there, so when we ask if this bus gets close to Plaza Fiesta and it says "3 blocks away, yes", I'm like, fine.
MISTAKE.
The bus starts to fill up and I start to doze off. I wake up half an hour later and Ezer is NOT the man sitting next to me. Panic. We both have no credit so we can't call each other. I don't know where I am. I can't speak Spanish. Then, I see him up ahead, standing smushed between other people. Omygod! >_<
The bus driver had forgotten to tell us when we were close to Plaza Fiesta. DID I MENTION I HATE THE BUSES HERE?!?! We escape the bus and are underneath a sweltering sun. Thank God that boy was with me bc I was clueless. To make a short story short, we walked to a corner farther away, grabbed "Circuito Confort", rode for 10 minutes and were at my house. Phew.
Tomorrow I guess I'm going to Holbox. I'll let you knows.

Jealous of your 90+ degree weather. It is like 35-ish in Storrs right now with the windchill and I'm fucking freezing.
ReplyDeleteAlso bus adventures are the best. Or any kind of public transportation adventures for that matter. My boyfriend and I (will explain later, hah) went to see These Arms Are Snakes in Brooklyn over spring break and we had to switch subway trains and I got off at the wrong stop and then we ended up missing the last train back to CT and we were stuck there! It was okay though. This story is more epic when I tell the whole thing, trust me. lol. Just thought I would comment before I run off to class since I never seem to have time!
Josh and I both miss you lots lol.
