Kimbila: Ezer's fam is really nice. I slept in a hammock and didn't know how to do it. I woke up in the middle of the night and moved, and all my bones cracked. I think hammocks are an awesome idea though, and they must be more comfortable once you get to know them personally.
Funny story: We were at one of his friend's birthday parties, and the night had gone smoothly. I think I made a pretty good impression. I went inside the house to find Ezer and saw him standing next to his sister. His back was to me, so I ran up and smacked him really hard in the ass.
He was not Ezer.
He was his extremely-shy-around-girls friend. And I had just violated him. I collapsed to the floor laughing in humiliation and when I looked up, everyone was in the room laughing at me. Ezer walked in and was like "what happened?" OMG >_<
Group Presentation: I had my first "group presentation" in the hated Literature of Yucatan class. We were supposed to go on Wed. I didn't attend class on Mon. because I was lazy-*ahem*-sick. We didn't have school on Tues. I only had one girl's email and she wasn't responding. I can't analyze poetry in English let alone in Spanish!! I needed helps. I panicked for a few days and finally reached the guy. We met up in el Centro for like 10 minutes and called it a day. The thing turned out fine, but I did not enjoy the fact that everyone left me hanging high and dry to fend for myself. In conclusion, the Mexican education system continues to elude me. *sigh*
Movie: I got an email from my program director who got it from a teacher who got it from a woman who was directing an independent comedy here in Merida. She was looking for an American woman to play a part in her movie. Reqs: "Speak English, understand Spanish, have experience in comedy, and 'look American'". Sweet! I am totally qualified! Oh wait...what is this nonsense "look American"? How racist!! >:(
I sent her my resume of experience (*ahem* 7 years in improv comedy in two illustrious groups, 11 years on le stage) and she wanted to meet me. So a few days later I show up at this hotel, early (that means something for me!) and all dressed up. I didn't know what to expect but I was very anxious about it. This woman comes in in sweatpants and is like "let's go in my car, I have some stuff I need to do." So we go and drop off some clothes for her "movie" that she needs to get fixed and I learn a little bit about what the FUCK this woman from Louisiana is doing down here making films. We go back in the car and she asks me where I live so she can drop me off. I'm like WHAT!?! WHY AM I HERE WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM ME?!?! She kindly informs me at this point that the role is already filled and she just wanted to meet me "in case she makes another film before May, because she always needs actors". :| FML.
Cenotes: I went to Cuzama to see the cenotes last Friday. WONDERFUL. We took a van, man-powered tricycle, and a horse drawn cart on tracks to get to these cenotes. Cenotes are basically caves that have filled in with water and are accessible from the surface. In Cuzama there are three (relatively) close to each other, and each one was unique and lovely on its own. The water was clear and fresh and we all felt beautiful and clean afterwards. We could see all the way down to the bottom and that shit was like 100 feet deep! It was absolutely beautiful and mystical.
Languages: I recently watched an Indonesian teen flick from 2002 called "Ada Apa Dengan Cinta?" (What's Up With Love?) and it was AWESOME. Check it out on Youtube, it has surprising depth and substance. I started to learn some Bahasa Indonesia. Mummy would be so proud. But the only thing I learned was:
"Saya cinta kamu, hatiku."
I love you, my heart.
In a completely unrelated story, I also learned in Maya:
"In yabiltech ki'ichpam."
Te amo linda muchacha.
Stomach: I have had stomach pains for the past 8 days. I thought nothing of it at first, but once I discovered that I couldn't eat anything without feeling stabs of pain in my abdomen, I decided something was wrong. You don't get in the way of Ashley and her food. I just want to eat until my little piggy self is content. BUT NO. I can't. My "host dad" who is pretty distant from me and who I prefer to call "El Abuelo" (not to his face) was a pediatrician, and it turns out I have "gastritis". He gave me pills yesterday and I'm feeling better. But I still need my chocolattteee. Augghh.. XP
Omg that was a lot. Bleh I guess this is what I get.
